For the realization of the third artist residency of the international collective OUTSIDEININSIDEOUTINSIDEOUTOUTSIDEIN, _-๐(- ๐ฒ-)๐ต๐ฝ๐ฒ-๐ช๐ (- ๐ฆ-)๐พ-๐ผ-๐ถ(- ๐พ-)๐๐๐- ฬ, the production agency depart.one is cooperating with Performensk, the International Festival of Performative Arts Minsk, Torhaus Gallery Wehlen and Cross Attic Prague, and presents the artists of the SHAPE platform Audrey Chen, Pak Yan Lau, and Jonรกลก Gruska. With this engagement depart.one supports the transdisciplinary platform OUTSIDEININSIDEOUTINSIDEOUTOUTSIDEIN and is committed to the solidary creation of spaces of dialogue and internationalization of art and culture in the rural region.
ยปIn this residence I would like to explore the more acoustic sources from found material in the surroundings. Creating in situ sound sculpting and sharing sound massage, by using found objects. I would like to challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone and discover something new, different ways of creating and composing, giving priority to the process than the result. Pak Yan Lau
Pak Yan Lau's artistic sound practice is characterized by the combination of unconventional instrumentation (gong sticks, toy pianos, metal pipes in combination with harp, bass drum, tom) and the use of electronics. Inspired by Asian ritual music, minimal music and ambient, she created her own personal ritual sound world.
Audrey Chen
Audrey Chen is an incredibly talented musician based in Berlin, studying in Dresden, with an individually honest aesthetic. Since 2003, using the voice, analog electronics and occasional cello, Chenโs work delves deeply into her own version of narrative and non-linear storytelling. A large component of her music is improvised, completely non-processed and her approach to this is extremely personal and visceral.
SHAPE educational with Jonáš Gruska on DIY mycology
The workshop with Jonáš Gruska will conduct an introduction of exploring, identifying and growing mushrooms, as well as how to take mushroom photos, measurement of spores under microscope, perform a genetic analysis, clone mushrooms from the forest and more. Born in Czechoslovakia. Studied at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague (Netherlands) and at Music Academy in Cracow (Poland). His main focus is chaotic and polymetric rhythms, unconventional tunings, exploration of psychoacoustic properties of sound and field recording. He has created several site-specific sound installations, based on resonant properties of spaces and materials. Gave workshops on sonification, field recording, electromagnetic listening, and programming for artists. He is the creator of Elektrosluch โ electromagnetic listening device.
In 2011 he started label and instrument manufacturing company LOM focused on East/Central European experimental art and music. Since 2013 he is organizing ZVUK, an outdoor festival dedicated to experimental music. In 2018 he opened LOM space, place for contemporary sound in Bratislava.
Since 2019 he works with the world of fungi and lichens and started organizing mykoLOM festival.
